ACT Prep Seminar (Grades 10-12)
Special Interest
In-Person Option: This five-hour seminar enables your learner to prepare for the ACT college admission test. Your child will gain valuable insight into the ACT through a close examination of each type of question. This seminar will teach strategies necessary for answering specific question types and general test-taking tips. It also provides suggestions for post seminar test preparation. Your student will receive 24 practice tests, divided into 20-minute workouts, written to ACT specifications, as well as a detailed preparation study guide. Virtual Option: This five-hour virtual seminar enables your learner to prepare for the ACT college admission test. Your child will gain valuable insight into the ACT through a close examination of each type of question. This virtual seminar will teach strategies necessary for answering specific question types and general test-taking tips. It also provides suggestions for post seminar test preparation. Has your child expressed interest in babysitting? At this safety class, they'll learn how to keep other children safe, handle difficult behaviors, change diapers, feed a baby, and so much more. They'll also learn the basics of first aid and talk about emergency situations. (Students will not be officially certified in CPR or First Aid with this class.) Battle Drones (Entering grades 3-9)
Special Interest
Battle Drones features an exciting combination of aerial acrobatics with an engineering design challenge that will teach students STEM concepts, teamwork, and how to skillfully fly a drone. In Battle Drones, teams of students will build robotic launchers designed to fling projectiles at their opponents’ drones. Students will be guided by experienced camp instructors in how to construct their launchers to maximize projectile speed and accuracy. The camp will culminate in an epic battle where students will need to pilot their drones to safety by dodging opponent projectiles while using their own launchers to take down opponent drones. The best drone pilots and launchers will emerge victorious! Enter door 1.

Beginning Guitar at Spicer Music Studio

Does your child want to learn more about playing the guitar? They'll start with simplified chords and play songs after the first lesson. This class is a great place to start building a good foundation in guitar and challenges without overwhelming participants as they progress at their own speed. Code Championship Tournament Series: Virtual Computer Coding Competition (Grades 3-9)
Special Interest
Your child will build a computer bot to play head-to-head against other coders. Whether this is their first Code Championship event, or if you've been competing for years, this is the perfect way to explore the competitive coding world of Code Championship. No previous coding experience necessary. The Code Championship Series is a series of four tournaments in four weeks (it's ok to miss one or two). These tournaments will be hosted online using Google Meet and the Code Championship website. If you have a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox, no additional download is required. Participants should be able to navigate the internet (basic typing and mouse control). The link to the Google Meet event will be emailed two days before the tournament.

Eureka Engineering introduces students to the core skills of robotics and STEM through engaging, hands-on learning opportunities. Student groups will work with Lego Mindstorm kits, which include both electrical and mechanical components. The small groups will be mentored by experienced and passionate instructors. Game-ified Piano Lessons at Spicer Music Studio

Your young musician can play music with an app designed to give them scores on note and rhythm accuracy. This teaching method uses pianos hooked up to an app and feels like a game that students love to play that has educational value and helps students progress quickly. Guitar, Bass Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, or Ukulele-Beginner, Intermediate or Beyond (Ages 6-17)

Is your child interested in music? Professional virtual instruction is being offered by Steve Cekalla's Guitar and Music School. This class offers a unique and fun approach for starters, but with the ability to teach styles, theory, and techniques to those with instrument experience. A stable internet connection, some internet savvy (ex. ability to screenshot/print screen), and access to a working printer is helpful. Participants should have their own instrument, but a limited amount of guitars are available. Please check before registering for availability. This Community Education package is for three virtual 30-minute group lessons. Only one lesson package per student. Your child's sessions will be scheduled in the month you registered for. Horse 3-Day Camp (Ages 6-17)

Your child will experience a mini-week long camp. Campers will get to experience everyday life at a barn including activities such as daily riding, learning how to braid manes and tails with ribbon, grooming and caring for the horses (including bathing) and feeding them at the end of the day. This is a great time for campers to spend time outdoors and build lasting friendships with fellow horse lovers in a structured and positive environment. Campers are broken into smaller groups of similar riding experience, which is perfect for both the new and more experienced riders. Riding takes about 1 hour per day in an arena with no trails and consists of learning how to steer, stop, turn, and walk/trot on their own. Campers will spend time on the ground with horses throughout the rest of the day. Camps are held rain or shine. There is an outdoor and indoor arena. Proper attire includes sneakers or boots (closed toe with a heel), long pants and layers, depending on weather. ASTM/SEI certified helmets provided and required to be worn. Signed waiver forms are required and the link will be emailed to participants once they have registered for the camp. Bring to class: sunscreen, bug spray, water bottle, nut-free snack and lunch. NOTE: Drop-off is at 9 a.m. and pickup is 3 p.m. each day Monday through Friday (parents are not permitted to stay for the day). A “show” for the parents will be held on Fridays of weeklong camps at 1:30 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to take pictures, watch your child ride, and meet the horse they worked with during the week!

Mississippi String Music Camp (Completed Grades 3-12)
Special Interest
A wonderful musical opportunity awaits string players of all ages as they plan their summer fun. This camp is open to area violin, viola, cello and bass players. It will provide students with an opportunity to make music, meet new friends, and work with various conductors and musicians while improving skills. A variety of activities will be planned including orchestra rehearsals and sectionals plus enrichment activities such as fiddling, playing an electronic instrument and composing music. No auditions are required. Students must have completed one year or more of study on a string instrument. Car pools and early drop off for working parents can be arranged. Sheet music and a t-shirt will be provided (indicate Adult S, M, L, XL, XXL when registering). Please also indicate most recent school attended, string teacher, instrument and course section level. Enter door 2, each day of camp. For specific questions regarding class levels or scholarships, please contact Carlin Mayhew at 320-223-8281. Level 1 – this group is geared for students who have completed one or two years of study. No prior group experience needed. Level 2 – for students who have been playing at least two years, know all of the notes in first position and have had some experience in an orchestra setting. Suzuki equivalent is book 2 or 3. Level 3 – a group for more advanced students who like to work on more challenging orchestra pieces. They need to have some experience playing in positions (2nd, 3rd, 4th) and should be using vibrato. Suzuki level should be book 4 or higher. Wind players may apply. Concert Friday June 14, 2024 11 AM in the Tech Performing Arts Center. Early Bird discount of $10 is available through June 1, 2024

Campers will get to ride a real horse in an arena, meet several different horses at Boulder Pointe and learn how to groom the horses...all with a focus on safety! In addition, students will do an art project and have an opportunity to make horse treats to feed their new friends. Stations are split into 15-minute intervals to keep everyone engaged. Parents have the opportunity to lead their child on the horse and take photographs as they go. Camps are held rain or shine. There is an outdoor and indoor arena. Proper attire includes sneakers or boots (closed toe with a heel), long pants and layers, depending on weather. ASTM/SEI certified helmets provided and required to be worn. This 2-hour camp is designed for parent/guardian participation. Parent/Guardian is expected to remain with their child during the entire duration of the camp. Mathnasium is known for making math fun and easy! Students are invited in for an afternoon of learning and fun where they will practice skills individually, utilizing the Mathnasium Methodologies, and play a variety of math games and activities.
