Participants learn to be comfortable with new skills in deep water and learn new strokes. Tai Chi For Health & Balance With Shanti Yoga Center

NEW! Experience the calming and restorative benefits of Tai Chi in this beginner-friendly class. Often described as “meditation in motion,” Tai Chi combines gentle, flowing movements with mindful breathing to improve balance, flexibility, strength, and mental clarity. You’ll learn foundational forms and principles with a focus on posture, breath, and smooth transitions. Whether you're looking to reduce stress, improve coordination, or explore a new way to move mindfully, this class offers a supportive space for all ages and fitness levels. About the instructor Randy has over 30 years of Tai Chi experience and has trained in both the Yang 24 (Simplified Form) and the 48 Forms, which draws from four major Tai Chi styles and was created to promote practice and accessibility. What began as a personal effort to manage stress has become a lifelong pursuit of mindfulness, health, and balance. Randy looks forward to sharing the benefits of Tai Chi and widening the circle of those who practice.

Toddler Time (Ages 2-3 Years)

Designed to orient your toddler (accompanied by parent) to better prepare them for preschool swim lessons. Toddlers will learn to ease the transition from parent to instructor and become more comfortable with their skills and surroundings. Skills we will start focusing on are: safety, kicking, paddle, floats, and underwater exploration. This class provides a bonding experience for parents and their children. Class limit: 12. Establish your roots and use these top twenty native plants to add beauty and variety to your landscaping or flower gardens. We'll identify some of our favorite no-fail native plants for a wide variety of soils, shade levels, and overall toughness and learn some easy ways to integrate native plants into new projects or your current landscaping.

Walking Program

Don't let the cold winter months keep you from moving and getting your steps in! Sign up for the walking program and enjoy the climate controlled environment of various district facilities during the listed evening and weekend hours. After registering, a wristband will be available for pickup at any of the Open Gym sites during Open Gym hours. A wristband must be worn during walking sessions. Walking program participants are welcome to walk during any of the open gym hours listed here. The open gym hours are subject to change on short notice so please refer back to the schedule often. Walking program wristband is valid through July 2026.

Yoga FIT With KPower (Focused Interval Training)

NEW! Step into Yoga FIT and feel your body wake, ignite, and flow. We begin with a yoga-inspired warm-up, opening joints, grounding your stance, and connecting to each inhale and exhale Then you will challenge yourself for 25 minutes of interval-style strength training with light weights, sliders, bands, and bodyweight strength feeling every muscle engage, every breath deepen, and every movement cultivate strength and stability. Slower, intentional motions let you hone focus, balance, and control, merging intensity with awareness. We finish with a restorative yoga cool-down, stretching, grounding, and letting your body absorb the energy you’ve built. Leave the class stronger, energized and centered. Studio is heated to 85 degrees via infrared heat.

Young Explorers Day Camp Series (Grades 5-8)

Your child can have fun making new friends while getting plenty of fresh air and experiencing the beautiful 2,900 acre campus of Saint John’s Prep at this explorer camp. Participants will enjoy adventure and age-appropriate discovery activities, guided by academic themes of arts, sciences, and cultural exploration. Each date is filled with fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind and nurture the spirit of our youth. All sessions will include a snack, lunch, and camp t-shirt (1 per participant). Meet at door 1. July 15: Theater Exploration Day Camp In collaboration with Saint John’s Prep theatre students, engage in storytelling activities, develop and perform mini-plays, and take a “behind-the-scenes” look at Prep theater spaces. Then we take you outside to enjoy the woods and the trails of SJU. July 22: Wild Wonders Sciences Day Camp Take a wagon ride to explore the prairies, wetlands, and other wild places of the Abbey Arboretum. Anticipate we will do some things with insects, plants, and other fun creatures on campus. July 29: Around the World Day Camp You will learn about cultures from around the world through outdoor activities and cooking traditional food items as well as making some fun crafts.

Youth, Teen, and Adult Martial Arts (Ages 10 & Up)

Build confidence, focus, and discipline through the traditional Korean martial art of Soo Bahk Do! Students develop coordination, flexibility, and strength while learning practical self-defense skills and the values of respect, discipline, and self-control. Training includes stances, blocks, strikes, and forms taught in a supportive, goal-oriented environment. Soo Bahk Do provides lifelong benefits—improving physical fitness, mindfulness, and personal growth for participants of all ages. Loose clothing is recommended (no shoes or socks should be worn). This Community Education session includes one class per participant.
