ACT Prep Seminar (Grades 10-12) VirtualSpecial InterestThis five-hour virtual seminar enables your learner to prepare for the ACT college admission test. Your child will gain valuable insight into the ACT through a close examination of each type of question. This virtual seminar will teach strategies necessary for answering specific question types and general test-taking tips. It also provides suggestions for post seminar test preparation. Your student will receive 24 practice tests, divided into 20-minute workouts, written to ACT specifications, as well as a detailed preparation study guide. Participant will have access to the seminar for 6 months. Links with access codes will be provided after registration by Doorway to College/ZAPS. Printed materials will be mailed as well. Prerequisites: Must be 15 years old; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. Come prepared to swim. Apollo Eagle Spring Youth Football (Grades 3-8)RecreationHut one, hut two! We want to see you in Red, White, and Blue! Your 3rd through 8th grade child can make their way to Apollo Eagle non-contact spring youth football and experience a fun opportunity to learn and develop the fundamentals of football. Your child will work with the Apollo coaches and varsity football players learning offensive and defensive skills. Players will be split up into teams and compete in games of 7 on 7 football. Players should dress according to the weather. Players do not need pads to attend this league. Cleats are not required, but can be worn. League will take place on Sundays from 5:00-6:00 PM (3rd-5th grades) and 6:00-7:00 PM (6th-8th grades). Dates: April 24th, May 1st, May 15th, and May 22nd. Apollo Youth Tackle Football League - (Entering Grades 5 & 6)RecreationThe Eagle Youth Tackle Football League is back! This is a padded, full contact league offered to students attending Discovery, Kennedy, Madison, Westwood, Lincoln, and North Junior High. All players must be entering 5th or 6th grade for the 2022-23 school year. Your child will learn the basic football skills of blocking and tackling. In addition, your child will practice valuable life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship in an enthusiastic learning environment. Practices will be held two times per week at Apollo High School in the evenings and games will be played on Saturday mornings. Bring to football league: shoes, mouth guard, and plenty of water. Pads and other equipment will be provided. Scholarships: All North side players are encouraged to participate in football. Starting SoonBMX Racing League (Ages 5 & Up with Caregiver)RecreationIf your child enjoys riding a bike and is ready to start BMX racing, then this is the perfect program! At the track, they'll learn all the basic skills needed to start racing while making new friends and having fun. No experience necessary. They'll receive a 12-month membership to USA BMX and a Pineview Park race jersey (please indicate Youth S, M, L, XL, Adult S, M). Students will receive 4 coached training sessions, 2 practice nights and 5 races. More information will be given about available dates for these activities at the first class. Your child may race and practice at any USA BMX track as long as their membership is valid. Bikers will be paired by same age and ability level. Your child must be able to ride a pedal bike with confidence. Full face helmets and bikes are available to borrow from the track, although quantities are limited.
